Ok, so it's been awhile. How are things, you ask. Well, work has been absolutely, mind-boggingly crazy. But life goes on, and Dave and I have been taking time out to have a little fun. Of course, some of that fun was cooking. A few weeks ago we did a massive cooking day, and made a rhubarb crisp (ah, rhubarb season again!), oatmeal chocolate pecan cookies (Thanks Molly!), a lasagna with broccoli rabe, and a great celery soup.
I must tell you about this celery soup. It is so simple. It's just celery, onions, and a potato sauteed in a bit of butter until soft. Then add water to cover, plus some salt and pepper, and cook until vegetables are tender. Puree in a blender, strain (don't skip this step, this ensures a nice creamy soup with no stringy bits), add lemon juice, salt and pepper to taste. Boy, it really is delicious. Very simple, and also low calorie (just watch the butter use... you could skip the butter, but a little really adds some flavor).
Hmmm, what else have I been up to... went to a Yankees/Red Sox game on Wednesday. Being a Red Sox fan at Yankee Stadium is a scary thing indeed. I chickened out and didn't wear my Red Sox hat, it was not worth the risk of having jeers/peanuts/beer/fists thrown at me (other Red Sox fans suffered through that). Does that make me a fair weather fan, I hope not. Dave and I were sitting in the Tier level, but walked around the Field level before we left. It's like another world down there. It's everything that can be great about baseball. No crazed drunk fans, an amazing view of the field, the crack of the bat, you know - baseball at it's best. I still really, really want to get to a game at Fenway... I'm remaining optimistic. Fenway was my first major league game, so it's always held a special place in my heart.
Last night we had dinner with our neighbors for a big birthday celebration... both of their birthdays were this past week, and our favorite dog in the whole world also celebrated his 9th birthday. I'll find a picture of him and post it. :)
The AIDS Walk NY is coming up in less than a week, and I have about $250 to go to reach my goal of $1200 (go me!). Anyone who donates in this last week gets an entry into my almost famous cookie raffle. I choose one winner, and they get a batch of homemade cookies of their choice. Hopefully that'll help me reach my goal. (If you want to donate, drop me an email at thesamanthafiles AT gmail DOT com and I'll be very, very happy to send you a link where you can donate online).
The weekend is pretty much here, and I look forward to:
- Watching the season finale of Smallville
- Sleeping later that 7am
- Catching up on Texas Ranch House
- Picking a new knitting project
- Going to Ikea to get picture frames and maybe having pizza in New Haven
- Cooking something with vegetables (I think soup is in order)
- Walking around Central Park (keep your fingers crossed for nice weather at least on Sunday)
Anyway, thanks for stopping by. I've been remiss in my posting duties, I think I just needed a little break. But I missed talking about food, and knitting, and New York, and the million other ramblings I work into here.
Coming up soon:
- Pictures galore. The Shake Shack, dutch pancakes, birthday cake, finished knitting projects... maybe even the new windows they installed in our apartment!
- More cooking fun
- A visit to my iPod, what I've been listening to and what you should download
